Freebie and more from our Antarctica/ Penguin/Winter Unit!
How was your week? Why is it that 4 day weeks are always way crazier than 5 day weeks? Wowzers! It was a busy one! J
I worked really hard to finish my “Mini Unit on The Mitten”. I managed to post it Thursday night and made a freebie to share! I am a huge fan of graphic organizers… and I love Venns a bunch!
We have been continuing our Penguin/Antarctica Unit. This week, students made a winter words book (from my unit). Here are a couple of student examples…
We worked in our Penguins Journals. We use them separate and apart from our “regular journals”. In our thematic journals, we write about our vocabulary word of the day. During this time, students are integrating science (or social studies, depending on the unit) with writing. We have been working a lot on conventions in writing. We are excited that our kiddos are beginning to make periods, finger spaces between words and starting sentences with an uppercase letter into writing habits.
Penguins keep warm in a crèche.
Penguins can slide on their bellies.

Love to Joplin
I LOVE being part of a blogging community where we can embrace each other in the best and worst of times, where we come together for those who need us. Below is a copy of an email from a Joplin teacher… and at this writing over 90 teachers have already jumped on board to help! I encourage you to help too!! J See below for more information…
Deedee from Mrs. Wills Kindergarten received a very touching email from a teacher in Joplin. Here is her email:
I teach in Joplin, which made worldwide news last May when our town was cut in half by an F5 tornado. Many of our elementary schools were destroyed or damaged, and as teachers, we have had a roller coaster year. I came from a meeting yesterday where many are struggling with the weight of all we are dealing with. My request is this: would you be willing to donate a created pack of your choosing to give away at a drawing at our upcoming district Kindergarten grade level meeting? The meeting is Monday and I am sorry for the short notice but I did not realize until the meeting how down everyone is feeling.
Here's how you can help:
1. Send your TpT product or Teacher's Notebook to Erica
edoennig@joplin.k12.mo.us
2. Then link up on Deedee's blog
3. Purchase a tpt or teacher's notebook gift certificate
Wouldn't it be awesome if we filled her email with signs of love?
Let's continue to pray for these teachers, the families they serve and their communities as they rebuild.

I experienced Antarctica and I didn't even have to leave school!
What a week! WOWZERS! Full moon and no heat in my classroom for 3 days… I am all about life experience when learning but hanging out in Antarctica is not my idea of fun! J
Despite these trials…lots of learning and fun transpired! We have hung out with Mrs. Parrott’s class for many hours the last 3 days. I am thankful for our community of learners that just went with it! We learned tons about Penguins and made a bubble map to help us remember important facts. We learned 5 new vocabulary words this week, learned about the 3 main states of matter, learned CK digraph and how to spell with it AND how to write a rebus story. WE WERE BUSY!
I worked for about 5 hours today on my Winter, Penguin and Antarctica Unit. I wish I knew how some of these teacher gals whip out and post a unit so fast. Practice makes perfect…right? J
I am stoked to have Monday off and I have big plans to have a shopping day with Kelly! My girls are spending the day with my mom at her request! I might be a little excited! Have a good weekend and an excellent Monday!!

I am simply... STOKED!
May I just say I am mighty stoked about this new and BEAUTIFULLY bright blog design. I am lovin’ it bunches! Thank you Alicia over at Dreamlike Magic for this awesome and very “me” design!
Of course, I have to mention that I am SOOO proud of those BAMA BOYS for winning the National Championship! I have only been a TRUE football fan for 3 years and 2 of those Alabama has won the championship. Just call me their good luck charm. :) I own it. (hehehe)
I am hard at work on my penguin/winter/Antarctica unit which will be my first BIG project published on TPT and Teachersnotebook. It is about to wear me slick... I am too picky but if it has my name on it, it will be all that and a little more. :D I hope your week is a rammer jammer kind of awesome! Hang in there ya’ll... there has to be a snow day coming sooner or later!
Kelly's boys and my girls... yep, they are ALL Alabama fans! :0)
